Postdoctoral researcher / project implementer: Ekka Basanti

The general objective of the postdoctoral research proposal is to develop the postdoctoral researcher’s skills and increase scientific capacity, providing an opportunity to start a career at Riga Technical University. To achieve this, the postdoctoral researcher will be given the opportunity to carry out an individual research project under the guidance of an experienced scientific consultant over 3 years, with access to the necessary research infrastructure, materials and other resources.

The scientific objective of the study is to develop a systematic approach to more effective treatment of dairy-processing wastewater, primarily using anaerobic treatment, electrochemical coagulation and catalytic oxidation methods.

The following activities will be carried out during the project:
1. Study of the dairy industry in Latvia
2. Characterisation of dairy-processing wastewater
3. Development and validation of electrochemical and catalytic methods under laboratory conditions
4. Development of a pilot plant
5. Validation of the pilot plant
