Biotechnology and Bioengineering (joint program with the University of Latvia)

Biotechnology and bioengineering is a rapidly growing field that combines natural sciences and engineering. The study program allows students to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in this field, as well as to acquire skills in equipment and process design, and product development.

The program is jointly implemented by the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University, which provides students with access to the resources of both universities. The teaching staff of the study program courses are recognized scientists in their fields of specialization. During their studies, students study such study courses as biological systems design, information technology, chemistry, biophysics, genetics, genomics, materials science, microbiology, entrepreneurship, cell and genetic engineering. Also, it is possible to choose specialization courses in medicinal (red), environmental and industrial (white) and agricultural (green) biotechnology. During the study process, there is an opportunity to get acquainted with the practical organization of work in companies.

Potential careers are related to activities in various fields of biotechnology and bioengineering, e.g. work in diagnostic laboratories, pharmaceutical production plants, bioenergy production, a career in research or food, environmental, agricultural business, or formation of new start-up companies, etc.
